The Stylist's Great British 'Cake' Off....vote for me!
Anyone living or working in London will be familiar with The Stylist, the capitol's one and only free women's weekly (or men, it's a great read). What you may not know is that they are also hosting their own version of the Great British Bake Off over on Instagram, with weekly challenges matching those on the BBC programme. Competitors are asked to post a photo of their creations and the winner each week is chosen by the amount of 'likes' each receive. With the chance to win a Kitchen Aid mixer what further incentive did I need!
Currently we are on week 4 with challenges posted on Thursdays. This gives me a few days to think about what I will make, get the ingredients before baking over the weekends. Now is a very good time to visit chez moi, as there is pretty much a guaranteed supply of cake in the house. So head on over to @stylistcakeoff on Instagram and vote for me (and ask your mother, father, brother, sister, boyfriend, husband, dog and cat to vote for me as well...).
Week 4 - A frangipane tart
With excellent timing the latest Waitrose Food magazine featured a lovely frangipane tart recipe. With a tiny few changes, mainly increasing the cardamom content and creating a totally spelt pastry using half and half wholemeal and plain spelt flour, this is so far, my most liked entry yet.
Week 3 - A baked cheesecake
Unfortunately, this week coincided with being away from home and although I did seriously consider attempting to bake an entry for this week it just wasn't possible.
Week 2 - Flavoured bread
Fig, blackberry and fennel spelt soda bread buns. These were a bit of a mad last minute effort and I don't really know what made me make so many. Happily these were so good that it was no problem at all to consume a vast quantity (not long out of the oven). I will be definitely making these again. Fig and fennel?...it's the best combination (but maybe that's just my fennel obsession).
Week 1 - Twelve biscuits with chocolate
A quick and easy old favourite, chocolate dipped very almondy thins.
So please, please, please, just a simple click and vote for me. I'll keep you posted!
