Time to get cosy (and an excuse to practice some crochet)

As I write this it's damp and miserable outside, a dark forbidding cloud covered sky and endless rain. I think we can safely say that Winter is on its way. It's not quite cold enough yet to start fantasising about wood burners (definitely on our endless wish list) but it is that very English kind of dampness that just makes you want to curl up somewhere cosy. A perfect excuse to get on with some stash busting blanket projects and practise my rather shaky crochet skills.

Over the year (it's been a long project) I've been crocheting a variation of the traditional 'granny square' with a circle within the square. It's made up of a number of different crochet stitches so it's been a perfect practice project. The variety of colours have kept it interesting and it's been easy enough to do whilst watching TV after a long day at work (with a glass of wine in hand). Sid, of course, has been endlessly fascinated especially during the laying out of the finished squares. You cannot keep a cat away from a new blanket.

One of my favourite bloggers, Pip Lincolne, is always making some really lovely blankets and recently posted a fab idea for a simple rectangular blanket with added pompoms. This is such a relaxing and easy project (and very quick too) and the pompoms add a sweet touch of fun.

Time for a new project but back to some knitting for now, I'm definitely a two sticks girl at heart.

  1. Seen lots of fab ideas for different patterns, so I think I'll have another hooked up soon too.
